The History of the Bitzes

Today, we said good-bye to Nathanael's blanket, or his bitz (beets). He has been dragging that thing everywhere since we came out here in February. Since he sucks his thumb every time he has it, Mike decided it was time to give it up...needless to say, little Nathanael is very sad. He did, however, eventually cry himself to sleep. (I must write that I think it is funny that my husband took it away, but I was the one that had to deal with it...he fell asleep on the couch before the boys even went to bed.) Pray for us...seriously.

The History of the Bitzes(?)

Ever since Nathanael was a baby, he favored two Winnie the Pooh receiving blankets. He initially liked these 2 blankets (later to become the white bitz (pronounced beets) and the blue bitz) because they each had a long, silky-feeling tag. He would hold on to the tag and suck his thumb. I'm not for sure why he started calling the blankets "bitz", but he did and it stuck. When the tags fell off I thought he would no longer have the bitzes, but he still loved them regardless. These 2 blankets have provided security for little Nathanael for a long time...first days of school, boo-boos, longs car/airplane rides, sleepy times, haircuts, 2 huge moves, etc. Now the era of the bitzes comes to an end. Here are pictures over the years of Nathanael with his bitzes.

This is Nathanael on the day he was born, 2/25/02...wrapped in the white bitz (Moscow, ID)

The white bitz retired sometime ago but came out of retirement when the blue bitz ripped almost in half and was sent to Mema in Oklahoma for some major repairs!

I have a feeling we have some very long days ahead of us!

It will be okay! I bet he'll move on quickly after a few tears! ("In Jesus Name", Amen!)
