a new President

All morning, Nate and I have been watching the Presidential Inauguration ceremonies. As I watched and listened to the festivities, I found myself praying for President Obama and for the United States. We are so blessed to live in this country, definitely a land of plenty.

In President Obama's speech, he used words such as kindness, humility, courage, selflessness, nurture, honesty, hard work, loyalty, and patriotism. I found myself becoming more and more excited. Oh yes, I don't agree with all of his ideologies, but I like that he is passionate...passionate to make the United States a better place to live.

It is awesome to see how far this country has come in concern to civil rights. Yesterday, I was telling my Nate about MLK and how this country used to be divided. He said, "You mean I wouldn't have been able to play with Nate and Isaac from church if we lived back then?" I told him that's exactly what that means. He understood and was sad.

So now, all I can do is continue to pray for him and for our country, knowing that ultimately, God is in control. As I did on the day after President Obama was elected, I will end this post with these verses from Daniel 2...

Then Daniel praised the God of heaven and said:
"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.

21 He changes times and seasons;
he sets up kings and deposes them.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.

22 He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.

23 I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers"

God is awesome!!

I do not believe that the man others elected to lead our country loves our country at all...and I believe we have 4 long, hard years ahead of us, but I also believe from his administration many will turn back to Godly ways. He says fancy words, but to me it is very obvious he does not mean them. So many people got caught up in a cult like "change" forum and voted for him because of the color of his skin (gee, isn't that racist if I do it) and I am very worried about our country. Perhaps you can pray for me that I get your calmness...

I think this is a great post, Margo! Caleb and I watched the Inauguration today and I was excited, too (and no, I didn't vote for him). I don't think it's naive at all to be excited and to hope for change. I would rather be hopeful than to view this as Doomsday.

And you gave a great example to Nate about the significance of having an African-American president. To overlook that would be naive, I think. Good job, Mama!

Even with all the gloom and doom from a lot of Christians I know..I was surprisingly overjoyed, too! I was SO excited that our country could look past the color of ones skin and pick a leader because of what they think he stands for. Granted, I sure wish he didn't believe in abortion and was more God-based. But, who am I to judge? I am not. There is only One who is. And He is in control.

I also totally agree with your verses from Daniel. He certainly does "set up kings and deposes them". This is all a part of His plan...and I rejoice in that! YAY God! He does things for the good of those that put their faith in Him!

Good post Margo! Like you and some of your other readers I felt excited on inauguration day for the same reasons you did. Oh my goodness I feel so...much about the subject that I can't put it all into words right now. Thank you for your post. You're a good nut :)
