Creative inside fun

First, let me tell you that I completely sick of cold weather. Then, I remind myself that it could look like this outside and I feel a little better!

This is the front of our house in Maine a few years ago. I know the weather could be worse, but I think I would prefer cold and SNOW versus just COLD!

Anyway, the boys have been very creative with their inside time! Who would have known that the Russell Stover heart-shaped Valentine boxes that we gave the boys would turn into HOCKEY PUCKS and provide hours of entertainment!! But they have, which I think is AWESOME! I have had to send them to the garage to play a few times, but I don't mind if they play in the house. Am I a cool mom or too permissive? Oh well!! Here are some shots...of course, they use plastic baseball bats for hockey sticks.

Then, one night after dinner, Mike and I are still sitting at the kitchen table talking when we hear something like "cannonball!!!!" coming from the living room. I think this is SO creative; they had taken Nate's blue comforter and turned it into a POOL in the middle of the living room. They were taking turns jumping off the couch into the pool. Now, standing on and jumping off of the couch are both not usually allowed in our house, but I was so awed by their creativity that I didn't care and quickly grabbed the camera!
Here goes Kyle:
and Ian:
and Nate doing a cannonball (while Caden was "walking on water" haha):
and Nate "floating" on his back:

The boys are SO ready for our neighborhood pool to open. Every time it gets even a little warm outside, they ask if we can go to the pool or play in the sprinkler! No one would believe these kids were born in Idaho and Maine!

I used to pretend my whole house was a boat (though it didn't make life much different in the house)...I just thought it would be cool if my house was floating in the ocean, I guess! :) SERIOUSLY! You either need to come down here or I need to come up there!

Yeah, our front yard looks a bit like that today - huge snowstorm we're in right now! The Texas girl in me desperately wants to escape, but I'm trying to appreciate the seasons of New England. (This particular one is just so darn long!)

your kids are very creative and imaginative and found a cool way to turn a 'no-no' into an 'ok for the moment!' Another creative easy toy...if you have a paper shredder...fill it and then let them take the paper and throw it up in the air---instant snow!!!!! then they can ski on it or surf on it or build with it like sand at the beach............and if your carpet isn't TOO plush...it will sweep up really easily!!!!!!

what a breath of fresh air...I look around and see so many kids (and I know I am not a Mom but I still get concerned) that are gadgets and video and technology stimulated I was worried no one had an imagination left! So your boys have restored my faith...

I have great memories of the pretend stuff..and my favorite "toys" were not "real" toys at all. Your blog is bringing back all my sweet memories..and on such a cold AND snowy day...that is a good thing.
