As I have been thinking more about our family's recent diet changes, I feel like I should explain that I didn't just make the switch to organic on a WHIM!! I started hearing all sorts of information about FOOD today and how it is SO processed and what it goes through just to make it on our store shelves! Then, I started reading more and more and more about it because it truly interests me and fascinates me. Then, seriously, as I started thinking about how God made the whole earth and we are supposed to take care of it, I started feeling a little convicted!
Let me explain, as I have experimented with making my own butter, which I didn't even KNOW was possible just a few months ago, I am even more in AWE of how God really knew what He was doing when He created the cow. I know you probably think I am a little crazy, but really, stay with me. All that butter is, IS CHURNED CREAM (or in my case, food-processer cream!) From the cow, we get yummy cream that can be turned into yummy butter that makes so many things taste better, like toast, mashed potatoes, popcorn, etc. So, why in the world does man feel the need to make something different or change something that God already designed?? I mean, have you checked out the ingredients of some of the "coffee creamers" sold in stores or in margarine??
So, really, my quest to eat healthy REALLY has a whole lot to do with trying to return to REAL, unmodified, non-growth-hormone-ized, un-hydrogenated, un-MSGed FOOD, the way God created it for us to enjoy.
When I began this quest to avoid certain ingredients, I had no idea that it would lead me to the aisles of my semi-local Whole Foods store rather than those of my local Wal-mart!! But it has, and I am actually really enjoying the journey!!!!
(also, I'm just sharing my thoughts...not trying to convert you all or make you feel bad or anything...I love you all no matter what you EAT!!!!!)

You are absolutely right!! And, you don't know how much I wish I had that much control, organization and motivation to do what you are doing.
I just know myself enough to know that I'd go buy all the stuff and then not follow through. Plus,
my family would NEVER eat it. My husband is extremely picky and Courtney almost as bad.
We have, however, been using turkey instead of ground beef for months now. We really prefer that now. That's improvement, eh? LOL
I think you were the one to ask about my nap mat cover. Yes, I left the end of it open so I can take it home to wash it. I can't believe your little one was sweating in there. The teachers were talking about how cold it was! Ha! I really hope Cam naps next week. That would be HUGE!!
I love reading your post about your menus and what your making yourself. I woke up this morning and thought I need to buy cheese clothe and try to make my own cream cheese. It sounds fun and making my own butter would be easy in a food processor. I need to see how you do it in there.
Keep it up. I am proud of you. I too love Whole Foods.
Thanks for sharing! You are totally inspiring me. When you have time will you explain how you make your own butter? We stopped using margirine years ago because of all the "fake" stuff in it. Is the real butter you buy at the store bad?? Kathy
I love you my green sister!!!
You are an inspiration to our Lord & His perfect creations.
I'm "staying w/ya" & I appreciate that you still love me w/my hydrogenated oil snacks ; )
Hey we gave up margarine before Jax was born. Did you know a doctor told me real butter puts on 10-20 lbs per year??!! Gotta zumba it off : )
I love the idea of stewardship - both of the earth and our bodies. I'm all for keeping it as the Lord intended it and created it - thanks for the inspiration! Thinking of you often - love the camping photo, too! So amazingly beautiful. The trees are blushing here with reds and oranges and it was 46 degrees when I woke up this morning!
The reason I make my own butter is because I really like knowing the source of the cream! I like that the butter is from unpasteurized cream! I think I can make it for a pretty good price, too!!
My Mom said she lived on a farm when she was younger in a foster home and they churned their own butter...she loved it! alas she gained 35lbs that summer but she said nothing compared to freshly made. :)
You've been nominated for a blog award! Come check it out on my page!
